Cup Classes FAQs
What are the "Qualifier Classes"?
As Ontario has more horses wanting to compete in the Cup Classes than number of entries accepted – Ontario qualifying classes are held to determine those that will be eligible to enter the Royal Cup classes. There are 2 qualifying classes for both the Governor General’s Cup and Lieutenant Governor’s Cup. Horses are not required to compete in both qualifiers, however total points earned in both classes will determine the top qualifying number.
How are points awarded?
Points are awarded and multiplied by the number of horses shown in the class.
1st – 20, 2nd – 19, 3 rd -18, 4th – 17, 5th – 16, 6th – 15, decreasing by 1 point for each placing to 20th (i.e..: 1st place of 30 horses: 20 x 30 = 600 / 17th of 30 horses: 4 x 30 = 120)
Do horses & Ponies have to be registered?
Yes, registration papers are required and a copy must accompany the entry. Notification of papers pending will not be accepted. Horses/Ponies must be Canadian Bred (born in Canada).
